{"id":490673,"date":"2019-09-29T10:37:07","date_gmt":"2019-09-29T16:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=892365"},"modified":"2019-09-29T10:37:07","modified_gmt":"2019-09-29T16:37:07","slug":"watch-queen-adam-lambert-pharrell-carole-king-perform-at-global-citizen-fest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/watch-queen-adam-lambert-pharrell-carole-king-perform-at-global-citizen-fest\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Queen + Adam Lambert, Pharrell, Carole King Perform at Global Citizen Fest"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/10429269iy.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>For its seventh year, musicians and activists came together for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/global-citizen\/\">Global Citizen<\/a> Festival in New York City\u2019s Central Park in an effort to end poverty by 2030 and combat climate change.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s five-hour festival featured a lineup of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/queen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_queen\" data-tag=\"queen\">Queen<\/a> + Adam Lambert, Alicia Keys, Pharrell Williams and OneRepublic, with additional performances from Ben Platt, David Gray, Jon Batiste and French Montana.<\/p>\n<p>Headliners Queen + Adam Lambert delivered a riveting performance of \u201cBohemian Rhapsody\u201d at the Great Lawn, still riding off the high of the 2018 film.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mERbSsw984g?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Spanning generations, singer and activist Carole King was introduced by Kelly Clarkson who then joined her on a duet for \u201cWhere You Lead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5wXjxVJkNsw?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In her third appearance at the festival since its inception in 2012, Alicia Keys took a seat at the piano to cover Billy Joel\u2019s \u201cNew York State of Mind\u201d before transitioning into her 2009 hit with Jay-Z \u201cEmpire State of Mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the freshest faces on the lineup was H.E.R. who performed hypnotic renditions of \u201cCarried Away\u201d and \u201cMake It Rain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6D7z4col-SY?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>During the event, actor Leonardo DiCaprio took the stage to criticize political leaders for their unwillingness to address climate change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile our leaders continue to deny the science, I can tell you one thing for certain: the youth is not,\u201d he told the crowd. DiCaprio was then joined by young climate activists Alexandria Villesenior, Xiye Bastida, and Selina Neirok Leem.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0sMwKLkW4lI?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Next year, Global Citizen will host a 10-hour concert called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/metallica-billie-eilish-miley-cyrus-and-more-global-citizen-891160\/\">Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream<\/a>, which is scheduled for September 2020.
