Ginger Baker<\/a> is \u201cholding his own\u201d following the news that the Cream<\/a> drummer was critically ill<\/a> in the hospital last week. His family posted an update last night on Twitter confirming that Baker is being visited by loved ones. \u201cGinger is holding his own and thank you for all your good wishes,\u201d they said. \u201cHe is receiving visits from close family and very special friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, the family confirmed that Baker had been admitted to the hospital and was \u201ccritically ill,\u201d although no further details were shared. Baker, the cofounder and drummer of Cream, has suffered a number of ailments in recent years. In 2016, the drummer underwent open heart surgery<\/a>. Earlier that same year he was forced to cancel a tour with his band Air Force after being diagnosed with \u201cserious heart problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2013, he told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> that his health was \u201cnot good\u201d and that performing left him exhausted. \u201cI\u2019ve got degenerative osteoarthritis, which is extremely painful and I\u2019m on a regiment with a health service pain management control,\u201d he said. \u201cApart from that I\u2019ve got COPD from smoking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baker, who was named Number Three on Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s \u201c100 Greatest Drummers of All Time<\/a>,\u201d cofounded Cream with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce in 1966. The musician has also released numerous solo albums, including his most recent, Why?,<\/em> in 2014.<\/p>\n
