{"id":490702,"date":"2019-09-30T07:29:20","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T13:29:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=892528"},"modified":"2019-09-30T07:29:20","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T13:29:20","slug":"dave-grohl-cried-a-little-bit-hearing-weezer-cover-nirvana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/dave-grohl-cried-a-little-bit-hearing-weezer-cover-nirvana\/","title":{"rendered":"Dave Grohl \u2018Cried a Little Bit\u2019 Hearing Weezer Cover Nirvana"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/GettyImages-1177774920.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/dave-grohl\/\">Dave Grohl<\/a> was brought to tears this past weekend at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/weezer\/\">Weezer<\/a> paid tribute to the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nirvana\/\">Nirvana<\/a> drummer by performing a cover of \u201cLithium.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Loudwire <a href=\"https:\/\/loudwire.com\/dave-grohl-cried-weezer-cover-nirvana-rock-in-rio\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> that Weezer frontman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/rivers-cuomo\">Rivers Cuomo<\/a> introduced the song as a \u201cteaser\u201d for Grohl\u2019s current band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/foo-fighters\">Foo Fighters<\/a>, who were headlining the festival. It was one of five covers that the band elected to play, and one of only two that wasn\u2019t off their covers album, <em>Weezer (The Teal Album)<\/em>. Cuomo has talked extensively about his love for Nirvana, saying in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/rivers-cuomo-i-was-nirvanas-biggest-fan-108604\/\">a 2014 <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> interview<\/a> that he felt like he was \u201cNirvana\u2019s biggest fan in the Nineties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qd99-mCZjgc?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Grohl acknowledged the tribute in the middle of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/foo-fighters\/\" id=\"auto-tag_foo-fighters\" data-tag=\"foo-fighters\">Foo Fighters<\/a>\u2019 set, dedicating their song \u201cBig Me\u201d to Weezer in return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was backstage and I heard Weezer play the \u2018Lithium\u2019 song,\u201d Grohl told the crowd. \u201cI gotta be honest, I cried a little bit. I did! I miss playing that song. I miss it, so I\u2019m happy to hear Weezer play it again. So this one goes out to the sweet Weezer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VjVlBxR2guw?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nirvana\u2019s seminal live acoustic album, <em>MTV Unplugged in New York<\/em>,&nbsp;will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/nirvana-mtv-unplugged-in-new-york-vinyl-reissue-891521\/\">reissued<\/a> in November on a 2-LP vinyl, with newly released rehearsal versions of \u201cThe Man Who Sold the World\u201d and other songs from the set.
