Lil Nas X<\/a> \u2014 the viral rapper who shot to fame with \u201cOld Town Road\u201d \u2014 sat down for an interview with Gayle King<\/a> on CBS This Morning<\/em> to discuss coming to terms with his sexuality. The 20-year-old artist from Lithia Springs, Georgia, officially came out as gay in his song \u201cc7osure,\u201d<\/a> released in June (Pride Month) as part of his debut LP 7<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In the interview, Lil Nas X describes knowing that he was gay from a young age and \u201cpraying\u2026that it was, like, a phase\u2026That it would go away,\u201d alluding to the hardships he would have faced if he had been out. When King asks if he thinks his coming out will help other kids going through the same struggles, he responds, \u201cI think it\u2019s gonna always help, you know. We still have a long way to go, because it\u2019s not like everybody is messing with me now\u2026But I do believe it\u2019s helping.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of the CBS This Morning <\/em>segment, Lil Nas X also visited his former high school in Atlanta, where he was greeted by throngs of teenage fans.<\/p>\n

In other Lil Nas X news, he may have a collaboration with Fiona Apple<\/a> in his future. After Apple posted a video<\/a> in which the singer lightly jabbed at the rapper for sampling her song \u201cEvery Single Night\u201d \u2014 on the pre-\u201cOld Town Road\u201d track \u201cKim Jong\u201d last year \u2014 without asking her permission, he responded on Twitter<\/a> by suggesting a collaboration. Monday, Apple responded with yet another video message<\/a>, saying, \u201cI would love that!\u201d<\/p>\n
