Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour<\/a> joined Richard Thompson<\/a> at the latter\u2019s 70th birthday concert in London Monday for a performance of \u201cDimming of the Day,\u201d the closing track of Richard and Linda Thompson\u2019s 1975 album, Pour Down Like Silver<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Gilmour sang lead and played guitar on the lilting folk rock song, and about midway through he played a solo that recalled the melody he played on \u201cComfortably Numb.\u201d Thompson then took the lead for a more avant-garde solo. According to reports, Gilmour and Thompson then played \u201cFat Old Sun,\u201d a track off Pink Floyd\u2019s Atom Heart Mother<\/em>, although video of that performance has yet to surface.<\/p>\n

Thompson welcomed several notable guests onstage at the Royal Albert Hall performance, where he played songs from throughout his career, including a few Fairport Convention numbers.<\/p>\n

According to reports, Loudon Wainwright III performed \u201cThe Swimming Song\u201d and \u201cI Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight\u201d with him. Bob Mould joined in for a round of Thompson\u2019s Amnesia<\/em> cut \u201cTurning of the Tide\u201d and Mould\u2019s \u201cIf I Can\u2019t Change Your Mind.\u201d And even the Spinal Tap character Derek Smalls (a.k.a. Harry Shearer) came up to sing his own \u201cShe Puts the Bitch in Obituary,\u201d which Thompson guested on.<\/p>\n

Other guests included Judith Owen, Olivia Chaney, Teddy Thompson, Alistair Anderson, Eliza Carthy and Hugh Cornwell, among others.<\/p>\n
