Seriously? Our musical palette is limited enough in the 21st century without some dork claiming to have invented a common chord scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t care \/ I know you\u2019re gonna hate this song \/ And that said \/ We never really got along,\u201d Roger Daltrey sings in the opening verse. \u201cIt\u2019s not new, not diverse \/ It won\u2019t light up your parade \/ It\u2019s just simple verse \/ All this music will fade \/ Just like the edge of a blade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll This Music Must Fade\u201d follows <em>WHO<\/em>\u2018s first single \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/the-who-album-ball-and-chain-883875\/\">Ball and Chain<\/a>,\u201d as well as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/the-who-new-song-big-cigars-879225\/\">Big Cigars<\/a>\u201d which Daltrey and Townshend have been performing in concert.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Daltrey previously said of the band\u2019s first album since 2006\u2019s <em>Endless Wire:<\/em> \u201cI think we\u2019ve made our best album since <em>Quadrophenia<\/em>&nbsp;in 1973. Pete hasn\u2019t lost it. He\u2019s still a fabulous songwriter, and he\u2019s still got that cutting edge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Townshend added, \u201cThis album is almost all new songs written last year, with just two exceptions. There is no theme, no concept, no story, just a set of songs that I (and my brother Simon) wrote to give Roger Daltrey some inspiration, challenges and scope for his newly revived singing voice. Roger and I are both old men now, by any measure, so I\u2019ve tried to stay away from romance, but also from nostalgia if I can. I didn\u2019t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable.
