Ringo Starr<\/a> remembered late Cream drummer Ginger Baker<\/a>\u2019s innovative playing in an interview with Rolling Stone<\/em>. Baker died Sunday<\/a> after a lengthy hospital stay at the age of 80.<\/p>\n

\u201cGinger Baker was incredible,\u201d Starr said. \u201cHe was very inventive. If you listen to Cream, you can see there\u2019s something else coming through.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the late Nineties, Baker periodically performed with Starr and his All-Starr band, jumping onstage to play a couple of Cream songs with the group. At the time, the All-Starr band also featured Cream bassist Jack Bruce, and Starr said he always got a kick out of his introduction when Baker came onstage: \u201cLadies and gentlemen, two percent Cream!\u201d<\/p>\n

Starr also shared a fittingly bizarre anecdote about Baker, whom he said briefly worked as a fireman while living in Denver, Colorado. <\/span> \u201cHe was a fireman in Denver, and Cream couldn\u2019t back together because he was staying in Denver to get his fireman\u2019s truck license!\u201d Starr said with a laugh. \u201cAnd I\u2019m sticking with that because that\u2019s what I\u2019m told!\u201d<\/p>\n

Starr is the latest musician and peer<\/a> of Baker\u2019s to pay tribute to the late drummer. His fellow Beatle, Paul McCartney remembered working with Baker on Band on the Run<\/em> and called him a \u201cgreat drummer, [and a] wild and lovely guy.\u201d Mick Jagger also recalled gigging with Baker once, saying, \u201cHe was a fiery but extremely talented and innovative drummer.\u201d<\/p>\n
