The unconventional rap beef truly blossomed in 2019. Over the last few months, hip-hop<\/a> fans witnessed two rap stars wage an inter-podcast battle<\/a> and a former and current NBA player rap<\/a> at each other<\/a> over Instagram and SoundCloud. Now, as autumn descends, we receive Shakesperian levels of familial drama from the Graham household. During an interview with Nick Cannon on Power 106 Los Angeles<\/a>, Drake<\/a>\u2019s dad, Dennis Graham, objected to the way he has been portrayed in his son\u2019s music.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a conversation with Drake about that. I have always been with Drake,\u201d Dennis said. \u201cI talk to him if not every day, every other day. We really got into a deep conversation about that. I said, \u2018Drake why are you saying all of this different stuff about me, man? This is not cool.\u2019 And he goes \u2018Dad, it sells records.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Some of Drake\u2019s most successful and personal songs have mined his relationship with his father. On songs like \u201c0 to 100\u201d and \u201cLook What You\u2019ve Done,\u201d he\u2019s detailed stories of his father not being around, breaking promises, and not paying child support. When asked about these lyrics in Drake\u2019s music on a June episode of \u201cA Waste of Time\u201d with ItsTheReal<\/a>, the elder Graham also denied their validity. \u201cWe had a conversation about that also,\u201d he said. \u201cI said \u2018Drake, you gotta stop this man you know that never happened.\u2019 He goes, \u2018Dad, listen man. Just go with the flow. This shit sells records.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Predictably, the younger Graham decided to voice his disproval over his father\u2019s comments via Instagram Stories. \u201cWoke up today so hurt man. My father will say anything to anyone that\u2019s willing to listen to him,\u201d Drake wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s sad when family gets like this but what can we really do that\u2019s the people we are stuck with\u2026every bar I ever spit was the truth and the truth is hard for some people to accept.\u201d<\/p>\n
