Big Thief<\/a> appeared on The<\/em><\/a> Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/a> Thursday night to perform their song \u201cNot,\u201d<\/a> from their new album Two Hands<\/em>. The track got a hard-rock spin for the band\u2019s live performance, with plenty of distorted guitar fuzz, manic drums and beautiful, wailing vocals from Adrianne Lenker, who veered into almost emo territory at times.<\/p>\n

Two Hands<\/em>, Big Thief\u2019s second LP this year after May\u2019s U.F.O.F.<\/em><\/a>, is out Friday. Besides \u201cNot,\u201d the band has shared only one other song, \u201cForgotten Eyes,\u201d<\/a> before the album\u2019s release. In explaining why they\u2019re releasing two albums this year, the band has referred to Two Hands <\/em>as the \u201cearth twin\u201d to U.F.O.F.<\/em>\u2018s \u201ccelestial twin\u201d; it was recorded 30 miles outside of El Paso at Sonic Ranch Studio, live with almost no overdubs.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo Hands<\/em> has the songs that I\u2019m the most proud of; I can imagine myself singing them when I\u2019m old,\u201d Lenker said in a statement. \u201cMusically and lyrically, you can\u2019t break it down much further than this. It\u2019s already bare-bones.\u201d<\/p>\n

Big Thief continue their Two Hands<\/em> tour this week, with upcoming shows in Burlington, Montreal, Toronto, Detroit and Chicago. Their U.S. tour wraps November 11th in Columbus, Ohio.<\/p>\n
