{"id":491183,"date":"2019-10-12T13:08:13","date_gmt":"2019-10-12T19:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=898308"},"modified":"2019-10-12T13:08:13","modified_gmt":"2019-10-12T19:08:13","slug":"rolling-loud-removes-five-rappers-from-new-york-fest-after-nypd-request","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/rolling-loud-removes-five-rappers-from-new-york-fest-after-nypd-request\/","title":{"rendered":"Rolling Loud Removes Five Rappers From New York Fest After NYPD Request"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/GettyImages-1143207827.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>This weekend\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/wu-tang-clan-asap-rocky-rolling-loud-new-york-city-862218\/\">Rolling Loud hip-hop festival in New York<\/a> removed five rappers from its lineup following a request from the New York Police Department warning of the \u201cpublic safety concerns\u201d the rappers pose.<\/p>\n<p>In an October 9th letter from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nypd\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nypd\" data-tag=\"nypd\">NYPD<\/a> to Rolling Loud that was tweeted by Karen Civil, the police requested that Rolling Loud: New York drop Casanova, Pop Smoke, Sheff G, Don Q and 22GZ from its lineup.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.7894736842105\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">The NYPD sent a letter telling Rolling Loud to remove Casanova, 22gz, Don Q , Pop Smoke and Sheff G from their lineup due to history of violence. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/miVm3QN4NX\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/miVm3QN4NX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Karen Civil \ud83c\udded\ud83c\uddf9 (@KarenCivil) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KarenCivil\/status\/1182919267941044224?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">October 12, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe above listed performers have been associated with recent acts of violence citywide,\u201d NYPD Assistant Chief Martin Morales wrote to Rolling Loud organizers. \u201cThe New York City Police Department believes if these individuals are allowed to perform, there will be a higher risk of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday morning, when Rolling Loud released their set schedule, Pop Smoke and Sheff G were no longer listed; the two were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/wu-tang-clan-asap-rocky-rolling-loud-new-york-city-862218\/\">originally scheduled<\/a> to appear Saturday, while 22GZ, Don Q and Casanova were set for Sunday\u2019s itinerary.<\/p>\n<p>While Rolling Loud didn\u2019t comment on the removals on social media, festival co-founder Tariq Cherif <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TariqCherif\/status\/1183044608508518400\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">noted<\/a> on Twitter (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefader.com\/2019\/10\/12\/report-nypd-pop-smoke-casanova-removed-rolling-loud-gang-affiliation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">via <em>The Fader<\/em><\/a>), \u201cI can\u2019t speak on this much but I want everyone to know that we are still paying all of those artists full booking fees AND sending them offers for future Rolling Loud\u2019s in other cities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Casanova, real name Caswell Senior, wrote on Instagram after his performance was canceled, \u201cI JUST WANNA LIVE. My last felony conviction was 2007. I lost everything I ever loved and I\u2019m STILL losing. So much so that \u201cthey\u201d won\u2019t allow me to perform at Rolling Loud NYC on Sunday. It\u2019s unfair and unfortunate that my past, which I\u2019ve dealt with legally and personally, continues to stigmatize me and my career as a recording artist.
