Elton John<\/a> is the latest celebrity to defend Ellen DeGeneres\u2019 friendship with former president George W. Bush<\/a>, joining Reese Witherspoon and Kristen Bell who also stood by the talk show host.<\/p>\n

When asked about the situation in an interview with NPR<\/a> while promoting his forthcoming autobiography Me<\/em><\/a> on Sunday, John said, \u201cI admire Ellen for standing up and saying what she said. George Bush has made a lot of mistakes. I made a lot of mistakes. Ellen DeGeneres<\/a> has made a lot of mistakes. People need to come together [\u2026] They need to respect people\u2019s view on life. Except when it\u2019s heresy, and I don\u2019t think George Bush is that kind of guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHere\u2019s the thing: I\u2019m friends with George Bush,\u201d DeGeneres said on her show earlier this week following the uproar after she and Bush sat next to each other at a Dallas Cowboys game. \u201cIn fact, I\u2019m friends with a lot of people who don\u2019t share the same beliefs that I have. We\u2019re all different and I think we\u2019ve forgotten that that\u2019s OK that we\u2019re all different.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cYour Song\u201d musician also appeared on Sunday\u2019s CBS This Morning<\/em> to discuss Me <\/em>with correspondent Tracy Smith.<\/p>\n
