{"id":491240,"date":"2019-10-15T06:06:45","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T12:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=898794"},"modified":"2019-10-15T06:06:45","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T12:06:45","slug":"x-take-a-trip-to-cannery-row-in-delta-88-nightmare-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/x-take-a-trip-to-cannery-row-in-delta-88-nightmare-video\/","title":{"rendered":"X Take a Trip to Cannery Row in \u2018Delta 88 Nightmare\u2019 Video"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/z-delta-88-nightmare.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/x\/\" id=\"auto-tag_x\" data-tag=\"x\">X<\/a>\u2019s new video for \u201cDelta 88 Nightmare\u201d doesn\u2019t feature the band itself, but the next generation: Exene Cervenka\u2019s son Henry Mortensen (who also directed the video) and niece Carolyn Allen.<\/p>\n<p>In the clip, the pair trek to Cannery Row, the famous waterfront area in Monterey, California, a fitting adventure as the video delves into the X\u2019s rough-and-tumble memories of the late Seventies and their youth.<\/p>\n<p>Mortensen and Allen\u2019s journey is interspersed with vintage black and white footage of the area, echoing an experience Cervenka and John Doe shared in the Seventies. \u201cIt didn\u2019t seem like it, but we were kids in 1977, living in Venice, California, which was a poor, rundown, beatnik\/hippie stronghold,\u201d they told <em>Rolling Stone <\/em>in a joint statement. \u201cWe read Steinbeck\u2019s <em>Cannery Row<\/em> and wondered if there might be remnants of those romantic hobos and bohemians up in Monterey.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe planned a spur of the moment road trip with our two best friends,\u201d they continued. \u201cAfter a death-defying, winding ride along the jagged California coast through Big Sur, we arrived in Monterey. But the canneries were mostly abandoned and one had become a shopping mall with fancy eateries. It was horrifying and the first time we had seen a grand industrial building turned into a playground for rich people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soon, however, the X bandmates realized that they were a lot like the \u201chobos and bohemians\u201d in Steinbeck\u2019s novel. \u201cWe were dressed like bikers, beach bums and weirdos,\u201d they said. \u201cWe loved our roles as rebels and misfits. I wished we had driven a Delta 88, but our rusted-out, bright yellow International Travelall made all the elites recoil in horror.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDelta 88 Nightmare\u201d first appeared as a bonus track on a 2001 of reissue <em>Los Angeles, <\/em>but will now be featured on a seven-inch with a newly recorded version of their 1987 track \u201cCyrano de Berger\u2019s Back.\u201d The seven-inch will be released on November 29th, but fans can pre-order and stream the track <a href=\"http:\/\/xtheband.lnk.to\/delta88nightmare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, X returned to the studio and churned out five new or revamped songs over the course of two days with producer Rob Schnapf, including the refreshed songs on the seven-inch.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/x-delta-88-nightmare-898794\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>X\u2019s new video for \u201cDelta 88 Nightmare\u201d doesn\u2019t feature the band itself, but the next generation: Exene Cervenka\u2019s son Henry Mortensen (who also directed the video) and niece Carolyn Allen.
