Cody Simpson<\/a> has released a stripped back new single, \u201cGolden Thing,\u201d which takes its inspiration from Miley Cyrus<\/a>. The emotional song, performed mostly on acoustic guitar, pays tribute to Cyrus as he sings, \u201cDiamond throne\/ All on her own\/ Coffee skin\/ She let me in.\u201d<\/p>\n

The song, which Simpson teased earlier this week, has an intimate, low-key feel. \u201cI\u2005sing softly to her,\u201d Simpson croons. \u201cIn the last daylight\/ And the chorus of birds\/ In the heights of night\/ And if we could be heard\/ For whatever it\u2019s worth\/ The rulers in the sky\/ They\u2019d cry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simpson wrote the song to help Cyrus recover from surgery and she encouraged him to release it to the public. He told People<\/em><\/a>, \u201cShe was like, \u2018If you don\u2019t put this s\u2014 out, I\u2019m putting it out on your behalf for you. I\u2019m getting your Spotify login and doing this s\u2014 myself.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Simpson\u2019s last album, Free<\/em><\/a>, dropped in 2015 (its single \u201cFlower\u201d notably featured art by Cyrus) and he\u2019s been primarily focusing on acting since. The musician joined the cast of Broadway\u2019s Anastasia<\/em> musical last year as Dmitri and appeared in the production for several months. His band Cody Simpson and the Tide also released an EP, Wave One, <\/i>in 2017 and toured in support of the release.<\/p>\n

Cyrus, meanwhile, recently teamed up with Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey for \u201cDon\u2019t Call Me Angel,\u201d<\/a> a song off the soundtrack to the upcoming Charlie\u2019s Angels reboot, in theaters November 15th. Her latest EP, She Is Coming<\/em><\/a>, dropped earlier this year.<\/p>\n
