Some people sniff markers when they\u2019re young, chasing a thrill. Others smoke banana peels. Iggy Pop<\/a>, however, found more iconoclastic ways to get high.<\/p>\n

When he was asked on The Jonathan Ross Show <\/em>recently if he once stuck his tongue in an electrical outlet for a buzz (har har) he corrected Ross and said, \u201cIt was an electric train transfer.\u201d The former Stooge, dressed sharply (or is it loudly?) in a pink suit and mesh shirt, smiled and laughed.<\/p>\n

And then he added this nugget: \u201cI tried spiderwebs, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou ate spiderwebs?\u201d Ross asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I tried to smoke them, but you know you\u2019ve got to start somewhere,\u201d Pop said.<\/p>\n

Pop did not explain how he attempted to smoke the homes of poor, innocent arachnids. It can\u2019t be easy collecting enough spiderwebs to fill a joint \u2014 plus, fanning simmering silken smoke into your nose as it burns doesn\u2019t sound all that great. Pop offered up an assessment of the experience: \u201cThey were harsh.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the beginning of the interview, Pop \u2014 who is famous for his Homeric intake of drugs throughout the Sixties and Seventies \u2014 said he was not surprised to be alive.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, people all assume they\u2019re gonna live forever, so nah,\u201d he told Ross. \u201cIt\u2019s brinkmanship. My psychiatrist told me in the Seventies, \u2018You have amazing brinksmanship. You go to a certain place and you know when to pull back.\u2019 I always have [known when to pull back]. I\u2019m a conservative guy in my daily life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pop also discussed his friendship with David Bowie and shot down the notion of any rivalry they may have had with one another. Interestingly, nowhere in the clip does Ross mention that Pop released a great new album called Free<\/a><\/em> this year on which Pop found a cool, surprisingly laidback sound.<\/p>\n
