Flipper played a shambolic, hypnotic rendition of their anthem \u201cSex Bomb\u201d earlier this year on their 40th anniversary tour, and they\u2019ve now made it into a music video.<\/p>\n

The clip opens with testimonials from the Melvins\u2019 Dale Crover, Minutemen\u2019s Mike Watt<\/a> and artist Shepard Fairey, and it features clips from throughout the band\u2019s career. Jesus Lizard singer David Yow, who has been touring as the group\u2019s frontman, bellows the song\u2019s chorus over and over again \u2026 \u201cSex bomb, baby!\u201d<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s 40th anniversary tour<\/a> is ongoing, with East Coast dates through the end of the month and gigs in the south in November. It will all culminate with an L.A. gig at the Roxy that will feature Watt as guest bassist. In the \u201cSex Bomb\u201d clip, Watt talks about how much it hurt for him to be pelted with batteries, but that watching Flipper \u201churt in another way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Flipper\u2019s Generic <\/em>ranked at Number 26 on Rolling Stone\u2019s <\/em>list of the 40 Greatest Punk Albums of All Time in 2016. \u201cTheir fuck-you freedom inspired Kurt Cobain, who often sported a homemade Flipper T-shirt,\u201d the magazine noted at the time.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Generic <\/em>was featured on L7 singer-guitarist Donita Sparks\u2019<\/a> and Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne\u2019s<\/a> lists of their favorite grunge albums.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very fond of the song \u2018Sex Bomb,’\u201d Sparks said. \u201cL7 used to cover it. We did it as a mashup of it in the infancy of L7 with \u2018Sweet Leaf\u2019 from Black Sabbath, and we used to call it \u2018Sweet Sex.\u2019 It was very interesting that years later, we bonded with Nirvana over our love of Flipper. So there\u2019s something there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis would be in my top five albums of all time,\u201d Osborne said. \u201cThey\u2019re another band that simultaneously destroyed and invented rock & roll music. They wrote the Bible on what was possible with punk rock music. It was so far beyond anything I had heard before. Its genius is in its simplicity, its end-of-the-world quality. It made me want to make music that sounded like the end of the world, as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
