Dev Hynes pays tribute to Beck<\/a>\u2019s ever-shifting imagery with his reverent video for the latter\u2019s new song \u201cUneventful Days.\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The Blood Orange songwriter fills the hazy clip \u2014 which also includes intro \u201cHyperlife\u201d \u2014 with subtle winks to Beck\u2019s visuals and overall aesthetic: In one scene, a man stares at documents on his cluttered work desk as a rumpled Beck poster falls off the wall, in another, a man decked out in a vintage Beck T-shirt cries in his car.<\/span><\/p>\n

The visual co-stars Evan Rachel Wood<\/a>, Tessa Thompson<\/a> and Alia Shawkat<\/a>, who add subtle wardrobe winks to Beck\u2019s past. (The most overt is Thompson, whose attire and accessories \u2014 leather jacket, cowboy hat and boombox \u2014 nod to the 1996 video for \u201cDevil\u2019s Haircut.\u201d<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n

The synth-heavy \u201cUneventful Days\u201d and \u201cHyperlife\u201d come from Beck\u2019s upcoming 14th LP, Hyperspace<\/em><\/a>, out November 22nd. Beck produced the album, which also includes previously issued track \u201cSaw Lightning\u201d<\/a> with Pharrell Williams. <\/span><\/p>\n

Beck recently spoke to NME<\/em><\/a> about the record, which also includes collaborations with Greg Kurstin, Sky Ferreira and Coldplay\u2019s Chris Martin. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was not expecting the songs to come out how they did. I was going in thinking of songs like \u2018Drop It Like It\u2019s Hot\u2019, y\u2019know?\u201d Beck said. \u201c[Pharrell] felt very strongly that, spending a little time with me, that, \u2018You need to be doing singer-songwriter type of songs\u2019. So that was more of the direction we went in. I really tried to be less ambitious on the production on these songs, like to let them be simple and let them breathe. Pharrell is a master minimalist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
