{"id":491624,"date":"2019-10-25T07:02:28","date_gmt":"2019-10-25T13:02:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=903705"},"modified":"2019-10-25T07:02:28","modified_gmt":"2019-10-25T13:02:28","slug":"bruce-springsteen-trump-doesnt-have-a-grasp-on-what-it-means-to-be-american","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/bruce-springsteen-trump-doesnt-have-a-grasp-on-what-it-means-to-be-american\/","title":{"rendered":"Bruce Springsteen: Trump \u2018Doesn\u2019t Have a Grasp\u2019 on What It Means to Be American"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Screen-Shot-2019-10-25-at-5.40.22-AM.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bruce-springsteen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bruce-springsteen\" data-tag=\"bruce-springsteen\">Bruce Springsteen<\/a> laughed off Donald Trump\u2019s recent comments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/donald-trump-attack-bruce-springsteen-jay-z-beyonce-897771\/\">about him during a campaign rally<\/a>, with the singer adding that the president \u201cdoesn\u2019t have a grasp\u201d on what it means to be an American.<\/p>\n<p>Springsteen\u2019s remarks came in an interview with <em>CBS This Morning<\/em>, which first played the clip of Trump denouncing Jay-Z, Beyonc\u00e9, \u201cLittle\u201d Bruce Springsteen and other artists who supported Hillary Clinton in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>When <em>CBS This Morning<\/em>\u2018s Gayle King asked Springsteen if he was \u201csurprised\u201d that Trump was still \u201ctrash-talking\u201d him, Springsteen just laughed and replied, \u201cAnything\u2019s possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re living in a frightening time,\u201d Springsteen added. \u201cThe stewardship of the nation has been thrown away to somebody who don\u2019t have a clue what that means. Unfortunately, we have somebody who doesn\u2019t have a grasp of the deep meaning of what it means to be an American.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the two-part interview \u2014 Springsteen\u2019s lone broadcast interview in support of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/western-stars-movie-review-bruce-springsteen-901586\/\">new concert film <em>Western Stars<\/em><\/a>, out now in theaters \u2014 Springsteen talks about both the album and the film and how they were a love letter of sorts to his wife Patti Scialfa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatti\u2019s been at the center of my life for the entire second half of my life \u2026 and an enormous amount of guidance and inspiration and, you know, I can\u2019t overstate it.
