{"id":491650,"date":"2019-10-26T08:26:14","date_gmt":"2019-10-26T14:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=904202"},"modified":"2019-10-26T08:26:14","modified_gmt":"2019-10-26T14:26:14","slug":"watch-big-thief-perform-three-songs-from-new-lp-on-cbs-this-morning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/watch-big-thief-perform-three-songs-from-new-lp-on-cbs-this-morning\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Big Thief Perform Three Songs From New LP on \u2018CBS This Morning\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Screen-Shot-2019-10-26-at-6.26.27-AM.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Before embarking on their world tour, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/big-thief\/\" id=\"auto-tag_big-thief\" data-tag=\"big-thief\">Big Thief<\/a> stopped by <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/cbs\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cbs\" data-tag=\"cbs\">CBS<\/a> This Morning<\/em> to perform three songs from their latest album <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/big-thief-take-their-celestial-sound-in-an-earthier-direction-on-two-hands-897671\/\"><em>Two Hands<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Brooklyn-based indie folk band\u2019s Saturday Sessions set included a haunting rendition of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/big-thief-new-song-not-new-album-two-hands-870877\/\">Not<\/a>,\u201d as well as the wandering \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/big-thief-forgotten-eyes-893408\/\">Forgotten Eyes<\/a>\u201d and delicate title track \u201cTwo Hands.\u201d Earlier this month, Big Thief delivered a rock-driven version of \u201cTwo Hands\u201d and \u201cNot\u201d on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/late-show-with-stephen-colbert\/\"><em>The Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-dCwpkEnPhc?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Alongside&nbsp;<em>Two Hands<\/em>, Big Thief released their sophomore album&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/review-big-thief-ufof-834060\/\">U.F.O.F.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>in May. Their latest LP marks their third album in three years.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/f9PQH8twjV0?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Big Thief\u2019s reasoning for releasing two albums in one year is that <em>Two<\/em><em>&nbsp;Hands&nbsp;<\/em>is the \u201cearth twin\u201d to <em>U.F.O.F.<\/em>\u2018s \u201ccelestial twin.\u201d And the band still has more creative areas they plan to tap into.<\/p>\n<p>Big Thief singer Adrianne Lenker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/big-thief-ufof-interview-827486\/\">told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> she\u2019s been&nbsp;craving \u201ca period of input and learning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really want to get into other forms of art, visual art, because I think it would be cool to have another language with which to excavate things,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She thinks the band hasn\u2019t \u201chit a point yet where we\u2019ve had to make our rebellion record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in a way, all the music I make is dealing with that and pushing away from that. I do think this album is doing that, in the sense that we\u2019re disregarding all of it. All the ideas. All the constructs. All the expectations that anybody might have.
