Watch both performances at the 45-minute mark of the above video.<\/p>\n<p>Both the Pearl Jam singer and the Chili Peppers \u2013 bassist Flea co-founded the non-profit music school nearly two decades ago \u2013 played mini-sets in Silverlake Conservatory of Music\u2019s parking lot to a small audience as part of the benefit, which was hosted by Marc Maron.<\/p>\n<p>The Chili Peppers\u2019 eight-song performance featured hits like \u201cSoul to Squeeze,\u201d \u201cSuck My Kiss\u201d and \u201cBy the Way,\u201d while Vedder performed a solo set of Pearl Jam favorites along with his now-standard cover of Tom Petty\u2019s \u201cWildflowers.\u201d During both sets, students from the Silverlake Conservatory occasionally appeared onstage to perform with the rockers. To close out the evening, Vedder joined the Chili Peppers for the two covers; the two Rock Hall inductees recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/red-hot-chili-peppers-ric-ocasek-the-cars-tribute-889571\/\">performed together to pay tribute to Ric Ocasek<\/a> at the 2019 Ohana Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps in anticipation of the \u201cPurple Rain\u201d performance, the Red Hot Chili Peppers also played <em>Californication<\/em>\u2018s \u201cPurple Stain\u201d live for the first time since 2015:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Pk195uZV3m4?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Flea initially co-founded the Silverlake Conservatory of Music in response to cutbacks in arts education programming throughout Los Angeles area public schools.
