Bonnie Raitt<\/a> and Brandi Carlile<\/a> recently sat down for a joint \u201cThe First Time\u201d video interview, while interviewing each other for their \u201cMusicians on Musicians\u201d<\/a> interview.<\/p>\n

The duo traded stories about the first times they heard each other\u2019s music (for Raitt, it was \u201cThe Story\u201d) their earliest supporters (a summer camp counselor, for Raitt), the very first record they fell in love with (Elton John\u2019s Tumbleweed Connection<\/em>, for Carlile), and more.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I get all worked up musically and feel like I\u2019m on the edge and getting ready to lose control over my vocals or how I\u2019m playing,\u201d Carlile tells Raitt, \u201cI tell myself in my mind, I\u2019m like, \u201cCalm down and be Bonnie.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Later on in the interview, the duo share their first-ever encounters with their own musical heroes: the Indigo Girls (Carlile) and John Hammond Jr. (Raitt).<\/p>\n
