{"id":491839,"date":"2019-11-04T08:54:38","date_gmt":"2019-11-04T15:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=907608"},"modified":"2019-11-04T08:54:38","modified_gmt":"2019-11-04T15:54:38","slug":"neil-young-turned-down-millions-for-harvest-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kqzr\/music-news\/neil-young-turned-down-millions-for-harvest-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"Neil Young Turned Down \u2018Millions\u2019 for \u2018Harvest\u2019 Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/neil-young-harvest-tour.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/neil-young\/\" id=\"auto-tag_neil-young\" data-tag=\"neil-young\">Neil Young<\/a> has long shied away from performing <em>Harvest<\/em> in concert, and, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aarp.org\/entertainment\/music\/info-2019\/neil-youngs-new-crazy-horse-album-colorado.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a new interview with the <em>AARP<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> he says that is unlikely to change any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just offered millions of dollars for a tour to do <em>Harvest<\/em>,\u201d he told writer Edna Gundersen. \u201cEveryone who played on <em>Harvest<\/em> is dead. I don\u2019t want to do that. How about planting instead of harvesting?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, Neil Young isn\u2019t exaggerating when he says that everyone from his <em>Harvest<\/em>-era band the Stray Gators is dead. Pianist Jack Nitzsche died in 2000, drummer Kenny Buttrey died in 2004, pedal-steel guitarist Ben Keith died in 2010 and bassist Tim Drummond died in 2015. \u201cI miss my old friends, all of whom are gone, except for the wonderful music they made while they were here together on Earth,\u201d Young wrote on his <em>Archives<\/em> website in 2018. \u201cI was so lucky to know them and make our music together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the interview, Young talks about his possible 2020 tour plans. \u201cIf I decide to go on the road, I\u2019d like to do a democracy tour next year with different people that keep changing,\u201d he said. \u201cNot right or left. Democracy is not you on this side and me on that side just to see who wins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also said his poor relationship with David Crosby makes a CSNY reunion unlikely. \u201cCrosby should write an introspective book: <em>Why People Won\u2019t Talk to Me Anymore<\/em>,\u201d he said. \u201cHe made a lot of great music for a long time. I don\u2019t know what happened with David. I got nothing to say. I love Stephen. I love Graham. If a reunion happens, it would be a surprise. I won\u2019t close the door on anything. I can hold a grudge with the best of them but only if there\u2019s a reason for it.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, he said that a retirement tour will never happen. \u201cI\u2019d feel like Cher,\u201d he said. \u201cDon\u2019t retire unless you really aren\u2019t interested. I\u2019m interested. It hurts a little to play now where it didn\u2019t before. I don\u2019t hear quite as well as I did before. My voice is not like it was before. Show me something that is like it was before. I feel good about the future.
