Sharon Stone<\/a> is suing the rapper Chanel West Coast<\/a> over her song and video for \u201cSharon Stoned,\u201d claiming the rapper used the actress\u2019 \u201cname for commercial purposes without her consent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chanel West Coast \u2014 real name Chelsea Chanel Dudley \u2014 released \u201cSharon Stoned\u201d in 2018. The song, as the suit notes, turns Stone\u2019s name into a hook, while the video (released in April) finds Dudley recreating some famous Stone movie scenes, including the Basic Instinct <\/i>interrogation. The suit alleges that Dudley\u2019s intention from the start \u2014 with both the song and video \u2014 was to \u201ctrade on the fame and publicity rights of Sharon Stone for [her] commercial gain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Representatives for Dudley and Stone did not immediately return Rolling Stone<\/i>\u2018s request for comment.<\/p>\n

The suit contains a detailed breakdown of Stone\u2019s acting and philanthropic work, and argues that the actress \u201cmaintains strict control over the manner in which her name, likeness, image, identity and persona are used.\u201d<\/p>\n

To that end, the suit calls Dudley \u201can aspiring rap artist who has desperately sought to garner credibility and stature in the hip-hop<\/a> community,\u201d and accused her of trying to gain clout \u201cby invoking and trading on the celebrity status and fame of others.\u201d The suit cites as evidence a 2017 BET article<\/a> summing up reactions to Dudley\u2019s claims that she was as talented as Drake and Kanye West during an appearance on VH1\u2019s Love & Hip Hop Hollywood<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The suit alleges that Dudley was trying to do the same with \u201cSharon Stoned,\u201d noting that the song features the name \u201cSharon Stone\u201d 33 times and the name \u201cSharon\u201d 99 times. It also features past quotes from Dudley in which she discusses wanting to \u201credo some classic, iconic Sharon Stone movie scenes\u201d in the song\u2019s video.<\/p>\n
