Interviewed by Andrew Ross Sorkin, the pair spent half an hour discussing their rise to monolithic cultural status and the attendant businesses that came with it. In the audience was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/kanye-west\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kanye-west\" data-tag=\"kanye-west\">Kanye West<\/a>, snapping pictures of his wife from his seat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Then, West received a microphone himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>What has being a member of the Kardashian-Jenner business empire taught him? \u201cIf my family wasn\u2019t so omnipresent, maybe I would just rest on my laurels of being the greatest artist in human existence,\u201d West replied.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He then proceeded to monologue for five minutes, hewing closely to the talking points he\u2019s trotted out in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/kanye-new-number-drake-903404\/\">lengthy interviews<\/a> preceding the release of his latest album, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/kanye-wests-jesus-is-king-904921\/\"><i><span>Jesus Is King<\/span><\/i><\/a><span>. \u201cSocial media \u2014 every time I get asked a question I have a thought about it \u2014 I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s as particularly negative as cigarettes,\u201d he said. \u201cIf I post a hundred posts they say \u2018Oh, he needs to go to the hospital, he\u2019s going crazy,\u2019 but Instagram and different social media companies, they have the likes come back at a slower speed, they have a certain amount of posts that you should do to look normal. It\u2019s actually controlling the rate at which we\u2019re supposed to communicate and advance, as human beings.\u201d (West did not seem to be aware that the next speaker on the Dealbook lineup was Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <!-- .l-article-content__pull--left --> <\/p>\n<p><span>The rapper also discussed is newly affirmed faith in Christianity (he\u2019s described <\/span><i><span>Jesus Is King <\/span><\/i><span>as a gospel album; it was as his first full-length to avoid any profanity). \u201cIn my perspective, Jesus has already won the victory,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s for me as a man who\u2019s a Christian, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/business-of-being-kanye-west-903407\/\">as a billionaire<\/a>, as a founder of a 3 billion dollar company, to stand up and be \u2014 and this has to be stated, because <\/span><i><span>Forbes<\/span><\/i><span> chose to call me a centimillionaire, but when I show them the receipts, $890 million last year, it wasn\u2019t funny to me,\u201d he said, to laughter.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He also announced that the family is \u201cstarting a church,\u201d but did not provide additional details on the venture.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Another topic West didn\u2019t shy away from was President Donald Trump, with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/861964\/future-us-presidents-kanye-west-and-donald-trump-met-privately-in-trump-tower-to-discuss-politics-life\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><span>whom West has been associated<\/span><\/a><span> for much of the past two years. \u201cWe have 12,500 acres in Cody, Wyoming, and <\/span><i><span>Trump<\/span><\/i><span>,\u201d he said \u2014 putting special emphasis on the name \u2014 \u201chas actually opened up the ability to buy more land in America. In America you can buy land, and we can be owners. We don\u2019t have to be just the product of what Black Twitter tells us what we\u2019re supposed to do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMy father was a Black Panther and my mother was arrested for the sit-ins at age six, to fight for the right for us to vote, but it was the right to vote for who we tell you to vote on,\u201d he said, after alleging this information was always cut from other interviews. \u201cIt\u2019s OK that any black man voted for Hillary. But if a black man didn\u2019t vote for Hillary, you\u2019re a coon.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Amid growing confusion in the audience of CEOs, strategists, and startup founders, West continued: \u201cMy parents fought for us to have the right for us to have our own opinion.
