Bowie wanted to update several tracks from his back catalogue so they fit alongside his <i>Outside\/Earthling<\/i> songs. This version of \u201cStay \u201997\u201d was eventually recorded at Right Track Recordings in New York in May\/June of 1997.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">From the get-go, \u201cStay \u201997\u201d feels like a completely new song, opening with a tickle of synthesizers followed by the ragged glory of an extremely Nineties guitar tone. Still, Bowie retains the energy and groove of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_DanDvAfCcs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">original<\/a>, deftly transposing the disco edge of the <i>Station to Station <\/i>version onto a then-contemporary palette that toys with elements of alt rock, goth, industrial and techno.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cStay \u201997\u201d marks the third release from <i>Is It Any Wonder?, <\/i>following an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/david-bowie-i-cant-read-97-939238\/\">acoustic rendition of \u201cI Can\u2019t Read\u201d<\/a> recorded during the <i>Earthling <\/i>sessions and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/david-bowie-man-who-sold-the-world-previously-unreleased-935000\/\">version of \u201cThe Man Who Sold the World\u201d<\/a> from the <i>ChangesNowBowie<\/i> session. The final three tracks from <i>Is It Any Wonder?<\/i> will be released over the next three weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Along with <i>Is It Any Wonder<\/i>, another Bowie project, <i>ChangesNowBowie<\/i>, will be released on Record Store Day, April 18th, as a limited edition LP and CD.
