Dolly Parton is such a colorful character who’s had such a huge impact on various facets of the entertainment world, it seems almost inevitable there will eventually be a movie about her life. In a new interview, the country legend reveals which two actresses she considers the frontrunners for the role.
Parton tells Elle magazine that she’s considered both Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson as actresses who could portray her in a biopic, but says, “That depends on when I get it done.”
Parton does not offer a timeline, nor any details as to whether she might actually be working toward producing a movie about her own life, but she has certainly turned her attention more and more toward television and films in recent years.
The singer-songwriter, author, entrepreneur and sometime actress has a deal in place with Netflix, where she’s already produced a movie titled Dumplin’, starring Jennifer Aniston. Prior to that, she produced a pair of very successful movies for NBC.
Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors was a ratings smash when it aired on NBC in 2015, and its sequel, Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, was also a hit in 2016. Parton is currently producing a series for Netflix titled Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, which is set to premiere on Nov. 22. Each episode of the show is based on one of Parton’s songs, with stories dedicated to “Jolene,” “These Old Bones,” “J.J. Sneed,” “If I Had Wings,” “Cracker Jack,” “Down From Dover,” “Sugar Hill” and “Two Doors Down.”
