{"id":15408,"date":"2019-05-23T19:48:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-24T01:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/singer-gabrielle-louise-and-the-deer-play-carbondales-steves-guitars-friday-sunday\/"},"modified":"2019-05-23T21:05:01","modified_gmt":"2019-05-24T03:05:01","slug":"singer-gabrielle-louise-and-the-deer-play-carbondales-steves-guitars-friday-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/krky\/local-news\/singer-gabrielle-louise-and-the-deer-play-carbondales-steves-guitars-friday-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"Singer Gabrielle Louise and The Deer play Carbondale\u2019s Steve\u2019s Guitars Friday, Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/krky\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/05\/singer-gabrielle-louise-and-the-deer-play-carbondales-steves-guitars-friday-sunday.jpg\" class=\"size-large attachment-large wp-post-image\" width=\"620\" height=\"415\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/krky\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/05\/singer-gabrielle-louise-and-the-deer-play-carbondales-steves-guitars-friday-sunday.jpg 620w, https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/krky\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2019\/05\/singer-gabrielle-louise-and-the-deer-play-carbondales-steves-guitars-friday-sunday-1.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Austin-based The Deer will play Steve&#8217;s Guitars at 8 p.m. Sunday in Carbondale.<\/strong><br \/><em>Michael Schaffer<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">For those who aren\u2019t hitting the camping trail this Memorial Day weekend, Steve\u2019s Guitars in Carbondale is hosting a weekend full of music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Visiting artists to Steve\u2019s intimate venue include singer\/songwriter Gabrielle Louise Friday night, and on Sunday it\u2019s Austin\u2019s transcendental folk group The Deer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Both bring a little folk, Americana, bluegrass and indie rock to the lower Roaring Fork Valley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Subhead\">friday with louise<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Paonia based troubadour Gabrielle Louise will kick the weekend off at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Steve\u2019s, located on the Fourth Street side of the Dinkel Building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI like to call my music \u2018Activist Americana.\u2019 It is socially activated roots music,\u201d Louise said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The oldest of four children, Louise\u2019s musically inclined parents traveled from show to show sharing their music throughout her childhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cReally early on I developed a love for folk and narrative music, songs that carried a message or story,\u201d Louise added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">She carried on those tendencies, telling a story with a message in her songs, and creating a relationship with her audience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Louise is excited to be back in Carbondale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cIts been a few years since I played Carbondale. I had the opportunity several years ago to open up for the Infamous Stringdusters, so looking forward to coming back,\u201d Louise said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">She is bringing 11 new songs she has been working on for her next album.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Louise says many of them have a connection to different nonprofit causes that she cares about.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a new studio record,\u201d Louise added. \u201cI\u2019m very excited to be sharing this journey with my audience about fundraising for the project and what the new songs feel like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to eating at Senor Taco Show,\u201d she added, referring to the eatery located across the street from Steve\u2019s. \u201cThey are one of my favorite restaurants every time I pass through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Subhead\">sunday is deer day<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Finishing off the weekend run, and coming all the way from the Lone Star state, The Deer will bring a taste of the Austin music scene to the Roaring Fork Valley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">For the self-described \u201cTexas folk, cosmic Americana, and stargaze surf-western group,\u201d The Deer had its beginnings as a side project for lead singer Grace Rowland Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Park teamed up with core band members and music school friends Jesse Dalton and Michael McLeod in 2012, sparking a natural chemistry that led to touring and performing together as Grace Park &amp; The Deer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">After the death of band member Stephanie Bledsoe, the group of friends changed their focus from a solo effort to a group effort and collaboration, and became The Deer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThe term represents the cohesive collaboration of all the members of the bad, because deer are herd animals, and because the group especially identifies with deer as a symbol of protective guidance,\u201d Park explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cLosing a friend and a band member is just devastating,\u201d Dalton said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The band released its next album in 2015, which they dedicated to Stephanie Bledsoe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cEvery album since has been released with Stephanie in mind. She is often the subject of lyrics,\u201d Dalton added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Dalton, who plays the upright bass and sings harmony, describes The Deer as \u201cpretty diverse,\u201d ranging anywhere from indie rock, folk to bluegrass and \u201call across the board.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Becoming a regular to the Colorado music scene, band members are looking forward to being in Carbondale again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cPeople are very into music in the area, and we\u2019ve been lucky enough to find an audience here,\u201d drummer and harmony singer Alan Eckert said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI respect the Colorado music scene, and a lot of the bands we have been able to play with here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Tagline\"><a href=\"mailto:kmills@postindependent.com\">kmills@postindependent.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For those who aren\u2019t hitting the camping trail this Memorial Day weekend, Steve\u2019s Guitars in Carbondale is hosting a weekend full of music.
