Our Parks and Recreation Commission and council kept hearing those groups come to them and say, \u2018We want to see improvements.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Subhead\">OPTION ONE<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The basic improvements option zeroed in on resurfacing and re-striping the existing basketball and tennis courts, expanding and renovating the park\u2019s current restrooms and playground as well as improving the parks ADA accessibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Other option one basic improvements included:<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Improved pedestrian pathways<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Creating a historic plaza<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 The widening and replacement of park steps<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Utilizing the baseball field\u2019s outfield area as a multi-use sports field<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Dugout and grandstand replacement<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Picnic shelter improvements<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Irrigation replacement<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Installing a safety barrier around the playground<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Subhead\">OPTION TWO<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The moderate improvements option included many of the park enhancements already presented in option one, but tacked on a few more developments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Those additional developments included:<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Adding another basketball court<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Creating four pickle-ball courts at existing tennis courts<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Installing synthetic turf over the baseball field\u2019s infield<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Building a new playground for children ages 2\u20135<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Constructing a new park plaza and pavilion<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Replacing site furnishings<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Subhead\">OPTION THREE<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Already including many of the first two diagrams\u2019 park additions, the aggressive changes option also proposed converting one tennis court into strictly pickle-ball courts, constructing terrace seating along the baseball field\u2019s east and west sides as well as relocating the existing volleyball courts to the old horseshoe site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Additional option three enhancements included:<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 The construction of a few new pavilions<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 A new pedestrian route between the baseball field and tennis courts<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 The removal of the grandstands and storage shed<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 New safety netting along the baseball field\u2019s southwest end<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Terraced seating and gardens at the park\u2019s sledding hill<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Adding new restrooms in the southeast corner of Sayre Park<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Replacing the entire baseball field with synthetic turf<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Next, the city will launch an online community survey for further public outreach followed by another open house scheduled tentatively for July 11 to present the preferred option scenario to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Tagline\"><a href=\"mailto:mabennett@postindependent.com\">mabennett@postindependent.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thursday, residents received a taste of what improvements the city may make to one of its central gathering spots and the home of the Strawberry Days Festival \u2014 Sayre Park.
