In fact, she succeeded in crossing over even as her musical soulmates, the Eagles, whose sound was just as \u201ccountry\u201d as hers, failed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"deferred_content\">Embedded from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Kp9G0zkorio?feature=oembed\">www.youtube.com<\/a>. <noscript class=\"deferred_content\" data-deferred-info=\"{&quot;type&quot;:&quot;iframe&quot;}\"><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Kp9G0zkorio?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p>Ronstadt cracked the pop charts in 1967 with \u201cDifferent Drum\u201d but did not lodge a country single until 1974 with \u201cSilver Thread and Golden Needles,\u201d which made it to No. 20. She quickly went up the charts, gaining a No. 2 the next year with Hank Williams\u2019 immortal \u201cI Can\u2019t Help It (If I\u2019m Still in Love With You).\u201d It also won her a best country vocalist performance Grammy.<\/p>\n<p>In 1975, Ronstadt scored her only No. 1 country single as a solo artist with a cover of the Everly Brothers\u2019 \u201cWhen Will I Be Loved.\u201d She would, however, reach No. 1 again in 1987 with \u201cTo Know Him Is to Love Him\u201d (a 1958 Teddy Bears pop hit) as a member of a trio that included Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris.<\/p>\n<div class=\"deferred_content\">Embedded from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IRBZN8V2Fa4?feature=oembed\">www.youtube.com<\/a>. <noscript class=\"deferred_content\" data-deferred-info=\"{&quot;type&quot;:&quot;iframe&quot;}\"><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IRBZN8V2Fa4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p>In a 15-year country sweep, Ronstadt would rack up four Top 5s and three Top 10s among her total of 26 charting singles. Her last country single, \u201cWalk On,\u201d came in 1995 and topped out at No. 61.<\/p>\n<p>Ronstadt retired from performing in 2011, announcing the following year that she was suffering from Parkinson\u2019s disease.
