Just about five miles south of downtown Nashville, there\u2019s a tunnel on Thompson Lane. It\u2019s something you might miss if you blink. But for Cole Swindell, that tunnel was the perfect backdrop for his brand new video \u201cLove You Too Late.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swindell penned the song with longtime collaborators Michael Carter and Brandon Kinney, but he told CMT.com that it was a departure for the trio. Together, they usually wrote songs infused with a little more, well, booze. \u201cBrought to You by Beer\u201d from 2014, \u201cNo Can Left Behind\u201d from 2016, and \u201cReason to Drink\u201d from 2018.<\/p>\n

This time, though, it was different.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe three of us were writing together before I ever even got in the room with other songwriters. Those are the two guys I\u2019ve always leaned on. Those drinking songs? Those party anthems? That\u2019s been our niche,\u201d Swindell told us. \u201cAnd this sounds nothing like that, but it is one of my favorites.\u201d<\/p>\n

Directed by Sam Siske, the video features Swindell in the tunnel, while the woman who can\u2019t seem to get away from him fast enough \u2014 actress\/stuntwoman Kachina Dechert<\/a> \u2014 is driving like hell to try. Swindell told me when they were brainstorming initial ideas, he asked, \u201cWhat if we find a badass stunt girl,\u201d he said. And they found her in Dechert. \u201cYou can tell she\u2019s just a high adrenaline person.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s even more important to Swindell when it comes to making music \u2014 both songs and videos \u2014 is that he has been there. Wherever that may have been. \u201cThat\u2019s always me. Even going back to \u2019Break Up in the End.\u2019 I have to have lived a song. Sometimes, to a fault,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I write songs. I have been there, and that\u2019s why I can sing this song. The tempo of this one kind of takes you away from the heartbreak of it, but the lyric is as real as it gets. A lot of times, guys have too much pride, or they don\u2019t know how to say how they feel. And nobody\u2019s gonna wait around forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s one lyric in the song that says that best. I can\u2019t take back what I never said<\/em>. It\u2019ss Swindell\u2019s favorite line of the whole story, because that\u2019s what it all comes down to. \u201cThat line\u2019s why I love this song. Because that\u2019s the truth. Sometimes people will get lost in the song,\u201d he said, \u201cbut I hope people catch that line and love it like I do.\u201d<\/p>\n
