A Parshall woman who pleaded guilty to stealing over $12,000 from self-checkout resisters at Granby\u2019s City Market store was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years of supervised probation.<\/p>\n

On April 11, 32-year-old Penny Sanchez Rivera was sentenced to 90 days in jail, three years of supervised probation and 200 hours of community service as part of a plea agreement. District Court Judge Mary Hoak handed down her sentence. Sanchez Rivera will additionally be required to make a $500 donation to DARE Winter Park.<\/p>\n

Her sentence is subject to deferred judgment for three years. If Sanchez Rivera completes the terms of her probation and does not engage in any other criminal activity during the deferred judgment period, her case will be dismissed and no conviction will be entered on her record.<\/p>\n

Sanchez Rivera\u2019s sentencing followed a guilty plea she entered earlier this year. In late January, Sanchez Rivera pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree burglary, a felony, and misdemeanor theft. One count of felony theft was dismissed under her plea agreement.<\/p>\n

Sanchez Rivera\u2019s case made local news in September when over $12,000 was stolen from self-checkout registers at City Market after a late night power outage. Authorities reviewed security camera footage from the incident and identified Sanchez Rivera as a suspect in the case. She was an employee at the store at the time.<\/p>\n

The theft was reported to law enforcement shortly after midnight Sept. 7. Sanchez Rivera was arrested and charged with crimes related to the case later that day.<\/p>\n
