{"id":18159,"date":"2019-09-03T09:18:37","date_gmt":"2019-09-03T15:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/?p=59837"},"modified":"2019-09-03T09:18:37","modified_gmt":"2019-09-03T15:18:37","slug":"woman-charged-with-dui-vehicular-homicide-in-head-on-crash-near-blue-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/krky\/local-news\/woman-charged-with-dui-vehicular-homicide-in-head-on-crash-near-blue-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman charged with DUI, vehicular homicide in head-on crash near Blue River"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DILLON \u2014 Two people were killed Friday evening in a head-on crash on Colorado Highway 9 near Blue River in Summit County, Colorado State Patrol confirmed on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The crash happened when a vehicle that was heading southbound entered the northbound lane, according to Colorado State Patrol trooper Colin Remillard.<\/p>\n<p>The woman who allegedly caused the crash is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, DUI and failure to drive in a designated lane, Remillard said.<\/p>\n<p>Katrina Whiteman, who witnessed the crash, said the woman\u2019s vehicle was \u201cswerving all over the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whiteman said the woman swerved onto the southbound shoulder before overcorrecting and swerving into oncoming traffic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were right behind the whole accident, so we saw everything firsthand,\u201d Whiteman said.<\/p>\n<p>She said the suspect\u2019s vehicle hit an oncoming car, causing it to flip multiple times and ejecting two people.<\/p>\n<p>Both people were killed, Remillard confirmed. The suspect received only minor injuries in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>A vehicular crimes team is investigating the crash, including inspecting the mechanical components of both vehicles and laser mapping the scene, Remillard said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat ends up being an extensive investigation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The witness said she was speaking out about the crash to help create awareness about how easy it is to prevent these types of accidents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever we can lend a hand to make people more aware or slow down or wear their seatbelts,\u201d Whiteman said.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement agencies across the state, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation, are nearing the end of a three-week DUI enforcement campaign tied to the Labor Day holiday.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, 44 people were killed in crashes involving impaired drivers in August and September, and 209 people were killed throughout the year in drunk driving crashes, more than one-third of all fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>Remillard said additional information would be released Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/regional\/woman-charged-with-dui-vehicular-homicide-in-head-on-crash-near-blue-river\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Sky-Hi News<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DILLON \u2014 Two people were killed Friday evening in a head-on crash on Colorado Highway 9 near Blue River in Summit County, Colorado State Patrol confirmed on Sunday.
