Each student has their own copy, and we learn about all the articles and amendments, highlighting and notating as we go. This becomes their primary source reference tool for the remainder of the year. We also took a pretest, with questions from the U.S. immigration test. This will be their social studies final at the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 MPHS student Maddi Ruttenberg was honored with the Volunteer of the Year award at Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre in Grand Lake at Volunteer Appreciation Night on Sept. 4. Maddi has worked virtually every night at the theatre since 2017 as an usher and as assistant house manager. We\u2019re so proud of her dedication and her commitment to the Rep and to the theatre program at MPHS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 Food service is celebrating Colorado Proud Day on Sept. 18. This is a day to celebrate Colorado agriculture and educate school children about healthy eating. If you would like to join your child for lunch contact the front office to RSVP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 The eighth-grade football team had a great game Tuesday night against West Grand. It was a nail-bitter down to the last seconds. With a long completion down the field and with no timeouts left, they ran up spiked the ball to stop the clock with 11 seconds. On the next play, Ethan D. made another completion for the touchdown to tie the game and another successful completion for the two-point conversion to win 30-28. The seventh grade also had a great game, winning 8-0.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 GES would like to thank the Grand Lake Fire Department for their support of our Reset Room. They generously donated $300, which will allow GES to purchase sensory materials to help students regulate while in the room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 Three AP Spanish students from MPHS volunteered at FVE open house event as interpreters for our Spanish speaking families. It is awesome to see our high school work with elementary students and families. Great role models.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 MPHS Spanish class had a great trip to Costa Rica last June. There were 26 juniors who participated and four MPHS staff members. We spent 10 days in Costa Rica, spending time with families in a small farming community, volunteering at a rural school, hiking in the national forest, learning about the flora and fauna, taking bachata and salsa dance classes, kayaking, ziplining, surfing, snorkeling and speaking Spanish throughout our journey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u2022 In our \u201cWhat makes living and teaching in Grand County so great\u201d section, Hali Weimermerskirch, a new kindergarten teacher and high school cheer coach, was buying supplies for her classroom when a lady behind her found out Hali was a teacher and she bought all of Hali\u2019s supplies. What a wonderful place we have the privilege to live and work in.
