She noted that the dry and windy conditions contributed to the coals sparking the grass.

Olson said the fire never got larger than a half acre, but it was a mile from the border of the Arapaho National Forest and got close to the three structures on the property.

Though the flames got within a few feet of the residence, the fire was contained before the house or the other two structures on the property were damaged.

Olson said the fire was contained at around 2 p.m. after crews dug handline and laid hoses around the perimeter. At around 4 p.m., crews were mopping up the last of the hot spots, Olson added.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries occurred.

Grand Fire was assisted by Grand Lake Fire, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, the Lone Peak Hot Shot crew, the U.S. Forest Service and the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control.

via:: Sky-Hi News

A grass fire at a residence on County Road 627 endangered three structures on the property.Courtesy Grand County Sheriff’s Office Fire crews contained a half-acre grass fire near Walden Hollow on County Road 627 Sunday afternoon, narrowly avoiding structure damage.
