Crone will step into a position that has been vacant since the end of June after town manager Jim White <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/grand-lake-announces-impending-retirement-of-town-manager-jim-white\/\">retired<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Originally from Dillon, Crone has worked as the housing manager at Winter Park for almost four years. The position overseeing the town\u2019s attainable housing program was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/winter-park-hires-housing-coordinator\/\">newly created<\/a> when Crone began.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, Crone worked as an attorney in Summit County.<br \/>\nHe received a law degree in 2010 and also has experience as a builder and<br \/>\ndeveloper.<\/p>\n<p>With four years of experience working alongside government<br \/>\nin Grand County, Crone feels prepared to move into his new role.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a step up from what I do,\u201d Crone said. \u201cI get immense<br \/>\njob satisfaction from working in municipal government. It utilizes the skills<br \/>\nand talents that I have and Grand Lake is a beautiful town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of Crone\u2019s goals include building on a year-round<br \/>\neconomy in an area dependent on summer tourism, providing a better connection<br \/>\nbetween Grand Lake and the rest of the county and balancing the growth of the<br \/>\ntown with its history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so much growth,\u201d Crone said. \u201cI think the biggest<br \/>\nchallenge will be preserving the character of Grand Lake. Its character is so<br \/>\nunique in Colorado.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crone\u2019s last day as Winter Park\u2019s housing manger was Tuesday and he plans to jump straight into the town manager position Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to the job to tell the truth,\u201d<br \/>\nCrone said. \u201cThere are some things we have to do right away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With Grand Lake\u2019s year wrapping up, Crone wants to be a part of the budget process as much as possible. The Grand Lake board is also looking into hiring a new town planner, which is a process Crone will be a part of.<\/p>\n<p>Crone\u2019s salary has been set at $92,000. Grand Lake received 23 applications, which were narrowed to a field of 10 before the two scheduled interviews with six total applicants in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/grand-lake-releases-names-of-finalists-vying-to-become-town-manager\/\">September<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/grand-lake-has-three-news-finalists-for-town-manager\/\">October<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe town was honored to receive a variety of well qualified applicants,\u201d interim town manager Katie Sickles said in an email.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/grand-lake-hires-new-town-manager\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Sky-Hi News<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John CroneSky-Hi News file photo The Grand Lake Board of Trustees has announced the hiring of a new town manager and he plans to start Friday.
