We fear that which we do not understand. Do you know what cannabis is? Is it dangerous hippie drug like they touted back in the 1930s? I ask this question of people who are in opposition to cannabis, because truthfully, they don\u2019t have an answer.<\/p>\n

I believe that most people who are opposed to cannabis are only doing so because that is what they were told to believe and they are afraid of it. We can\u2019t hate them for that. Instead, we must educate.<\/p>\n

For thousands of years, throughout the course of human history, cannabis has been amongst us. It is a highly adaptable plant that can grow even in extreme environments.<\/p>\n

Hemp is cannabis and has been highly sought after for its strong fibers and seeds. Psychoactive cannabis, commonly referred to as marijuana, was recorded for its medicinal uses by early Chinese philosophers and grown for ceremonial and religious purposes by ancient Hindu leaders as far back as 2900 BCE.<\/p>\n

Even though cannabis use dates back thousands of years, it wasn\u2019t legally restricted until the early 20th century, when Harry Ansliger sought to use its criminalization as a means to persecute minorities and other rebellious Americans.<\/p>\n

The cannabis plant produces molecules known as cannabinoids, which have the ability to interact with our own endocannabinoid system. The ECS has been called \u201cthe most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining human health.\u201d<\/p>\n

You can think of our ECS as a lock, and cannabis as the key. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. There is much more to it than some headlines might lead you to believe. You don\u2019t need to fear it. You only need to ask.<\/p>\n
