{"id":20492,"date":"2019-12-09T11:43:37","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T18:43:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/?p=61942"},"modified":"2019-12-09T11:43:37","modified_gmt":"2019-12-09T18:43:37","slug":"backcountry-skier-dies-in-avalanche-near-rocky-mountain-national-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/krky\/local-news\/backcountry-skier-dies-in-avalanche-near-rocky-mountain-national-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Backcountry skier dies in avalanche near Rocky Mountain National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An avalanche on Diamond Peak buried and killed a backcountry skier on Sunday afternoon, marking the first avalanche death of the season in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>The skier, a 29-year-old woman from Fort Collins, was dug out by other members of her group, but she wasn\u2019t breathing, according to the Larimer County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Colorado Avalanche Information Center (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/avalanche.state.co.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Colorado Avalanche Information Center<\/a>, the avalanche was 2-3 feet deep, very wide and close to 500 feet vertically.<\/p>\n<p>The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
