Then a rock mesh will be installed to improve safety in the area where two rockslides occurred in November.

Beginning 9 a.m. Dec. 18, CDOT will turn around traffic heading west at exit 248 to Beaver Brook and Floyd Hill and traffic heading east will be turned around at exit 234 to Dumont and Downieville.

Local motorists with identification showing Clear Creek County residency will be allowed past exit 234 to State Highway 103. Stanley Road will also be closed during the blasting.

CDOT expects I-70 east to reopen slightly earlier than the westbound side after the blast, rock scaling and cleanup work. I-70 west is expected to reopen at noon.

The alternate route provided by CDOT suggests drivers take C-470 east to US Highway 285 south to State Highway 9 north, which takes you through Frisco back to I-70 west.

All of the work CDOT plans to do on Wednesday is weather dependent.

via:: Sky-Hi News

This map shows the planned closures for rockfall mitigation work on Wednesday near Idaho Springs.Courtesy CDOT Following major rockslides on Interstate 70 last month, the Colorado Department of Transportation will close the highway to conduct rockfall mitigation on Wednesday.
