Kirk Gardner, of the Colorado State Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>The driver\u2019s side of Tovar\u2019s truck was demolished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter this collision the Ford traveled back across the westbound lane and came to rest on the westbound shoulder of the road,\u201d according to a State Patrol press release. \u201cThe Peterbilt traveled off the south side of the highway and rolled over. During the collision the driver\u2019s side fuel tank of the Peterbilt was ruptured releasing diesel fuel onto the roadway and shoulder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the Peterbilt was 47-year-old Jeffrey Higgs, of Craig, who sustained minor injuries and was transported to The Memorial Hospital in Craig.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExcessive speed and driver impairment are not suspected, however, the crash is still under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit,\u201d according to the press release.<\/p>\n<p>Tovar was known by friends and family as Tory, and he became a father to a baby boy this fall, according to David Pressgrove, director of Bear River Young Life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was at If You Really Knew Me this year and just talked about how he was really working to turn his life around,\u201d Pressgrove said. \u201cYou can see, from the responses on Facebook that he was on a better path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If You Really Knew Me is an anti-bullying program that high schools across the United States participate in, including Moffat County High School. The program focuses helps students accept one and other.<\/p>\n<p>Pressgrove met Tovar this fall when he attended a Young Life club meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had started coming this semester,\u201d Pressgrove said. \u201cWe talked after club about a month ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tovar asked Pressgrove what it takes to be a good dad.<\/p>\n<p>The semi truck belonged to Herod Industries, and representatives from the company declined to comment on the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Piles of debris were scattered along on the side of the highway. The semi\u2019s cab was separated almost completely from the trailer, and the axle broke, leaving four wheels detached from the truck.<\/p>\n<p>Assisting with the crash were the Colorado State Patrol Hazardous Materials Unit, the Moffat County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Craig Police Department, Colorado Department of Transportation, Craig Fire\/Rescue and the Moffat County Coroner\u2019s Office, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/moffat-county-high-school-student-dies-in-collision-with-semi-truck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Sky-Hi News<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A two-vehicle accident involving a pickup and a semi truck 3 miles west of Craig on U.S. Highway 40 on Friday afternoon left one dead and one injured.
