{"id":20785,"date":"2020-01-01T12:33:09","date_gmt":"2020-01-01T19:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/?p=62337"},"modified":"2020-01-01T12:33:09","modified_gmt":"2020-01-01T19:33:09","slug":"new-years-day-storm-coats-grand-county-hinders-travel-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/krky\/local-news\/new-years-day-storm-coats-grand-county-hinders-travel-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"New Year\u2019s Day storm coats Grand County, hinders travel (photos)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.skyhinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/01\/DSC_4647-1024x678.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Snow started falling early Wednesday morning in Grand County and weather predictions say it\u2019s likely to continue throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/new-year-to-bring-new-snow-to-grand\/\">winter weather advisory<\/a> issued for Grand County on Tuesday warned snow will continue through midnight Thursday with accumulations of four to 10 inches of snow possible.<\/p>\n<p>Around noon, the Colorado Department of Transportation closed Westbound Interstate 70 at mile marker 215, near the Eisenhower Tunnel, due to multiple wrecks. There is not an estimated reopening time.<\/p>\n<p>The combination of wind and snow prompted CDOT to issue a travel warning about the impact on visibility and road conditions.<\/p>\n<p>A Facebook post by the Fraser Winter Park Police Department also warns drivers about the conditions, noting that several car wrecks occurred at the top of Berthoud Pass on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Even more snow is expected on the western edge of the county, particularly Rabbit Ears Pass, which is under a winter storm warning with predictions of up to 20 inches of snowfall by midnight Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service reported wind gusts of up to 61 mph on Berthoud Pass Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\" readability=\"6.9176470588235\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.7823529411765\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The combination of snow &amp; wind gusts to 60 mph will result in hazardous driving conditions across the mountains today, especially over high mountain passes.
