This No. 1 hit, recorded in 1982 and released in 1983, was written by Townes Van Zandt, who appears several times throughout the video. (That\u2019s him at the one-minute mark.)<\/p>\n<p>Nelson and Haggard had never heard the song until Nelson\u2019s daughter, Lana, suggested it. At a time when music videos were brand new, with CMT and TNN both debuting in 1983, this cinematic clip helped propel the captivating story song to success. The Outlaws<\/em> (1976), and <em>Stardust<\/em> (1978), as well as the singles \u201cOn the Road Again\u201d (1980) and \u201cAlways on My Mind\u201d (1982). Haggard\u2019s recordings in the Grammy Hall of Fame are \u201cMama Tried\u201d (1968) and the album <em>Okie From Muskogee<\/em> (1969). Both men are recipients of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammy.com\/grammys\/awards\/hall-of-fame\">Grammy Hall Of Fame<\/a> was established by the Recording Academy\u2019s National Trustees in 1973 to honor recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old.
