Dax Shepard \u2014 Crosby Braverman to me and all you other Parenthood<\/em> fans out there \u2014 has recently turned his acting skills into interviewing skills with his Armchair Expert podcast. And in doing so, it seems like he\u2019s unearthed a natural talent for putting other celebrities at ease. <\/p>\n

Like Dierks Bentley. <\/p>\n

On one of Shepard\u2019s podcast stops in Nashville, he sat down with Bentley to compare notes on everything from being parents, teenage skateboard culture, trying to get tourists to stop moving to Nashville, and how men pack lightly for media tours.<\/p>\n

Bentley shared his story from 2002, when he only packed one look for a radio tour because it was kind of all he could afford. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was out doing a radio tour in 2002, we visited 90 stations over the course of three months. I spent all my money on one Manuel shirt \u2014 with the flowers, really great black shirt, it was a $400 shirt \u2014 and I didn\u2019t realized they put together a whole montage of all the visits. So it looks like I visited 100 stations in one day in the one shirt,\u201d Bentley laughed. \u201cIt worked out to about $4 an appearance.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Shepard asked him how and why he moved from Arizona to Tennessee, Bentley shared the story he\u2019s told a thousand times before, but also the actual songs that caused his country music epiphany.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought, growing up, country music was <\/em>Arizona. Then I get out here, and I realized the southern roots of the music and how big it is here. <\/p>\n

\u201cI always grew up listening to my dad\u2019s music in the car. I liked it, but at the time, Randy Travis singing about the ring on his hand<\/a> doesn\u2019t really connect with a 13 year old,\u201d he recalled. \u201cThen I was 17, and a friend of mine played me a Hank (Williams) Jr. song. And you\u2019re just starting to drink beer and the guy\u2019s singing about naked women. And I was like, \u201cThis<\/em> is country music?’\u201d <\/p>\n

That song was called \u201cMan to Man.\u201d His friend then played Bentley Marty Stuart\u2019s \u201cNow That\u2019s Country\u201d and Alan Jackson \u201cMidnight in Montgomery.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I was like hooked<\/em>. It was like a coin going down your soul,\u201d he says of the moment he knew he had to make country music for a living. <\/p>\n

So I guess we have Williams, Stuart and Jackson (and Bentley\u2019s country-loving friend) to thank for lighting a fire under Bentley and luring him to Nashville with these three songs:<\/p>\n
