The Middle Park Panthers came out in pink Wednesday night with the boys hoops team donning pink warm-ups and socks while the girls unveiled their new pink jerseys.<\/p>\n

The jerseys were donated by Pat Acord of Acord Asphalt, said Middle Park athletic director and girls basketball coach Mike Reigan, adding that the new jerseys were actually Acord\u2019s idea. The teams wore pink to raise awareness for breast cancer while supporting survivors and their families.<\/p>\n

To complete the pink ensembles, Reigan sprung for some pink socks, and boys coach Todd Williams made sure his team had warm-ups to match for the Panthers\u2019 pink games.<\/p>\n

In the girls game, Middle Park ran into an undefeated powerhouse and fell 67-28 as the Panthers were hampered by turnovers and gave up too many points on the fast break.<\/p>\n

Middle Park was also playing short-handed with injuries plaguing the small group of girls, which really wasn\u2019t very deep to begin with. However, the team called on a handful of young players off the bench, and they showed great promise as Maddie Trail, Valerye Rangel and Emery Burns were all asked to pick up some minutes for the Panthers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought they did a good job coming off the bench,\u201d Reigan said. \u201cThey came in. They played hard. They weren\u2019t scared. They did good.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for the pink Panthers, Reigan said this won\u2019t be the last time Middle Park sees the uniforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re going to keep the socks; I\u2019m keeping the uniforms,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In the boys game, Middle Park held off a late rally to defeat The Academy 56-54 Wednesday at home. Williams said his team benefited from a strong team effort on defense while Seth Holestine led the offense with 21 points and Evan Laraby played exceptionally well on both sides of the ball.<\/p>\n

The victory follows a 50-32 win over Arrupe Jesuit and raises Middle Park\u2019s record to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in league play.<\/p>\n

The Panthers return to the court today for a matchup with Platte Canyon on the road.<\/p>\n
