{"id":21331,"date":"2020-02-08T09:30:02","date_gmt":"2020-02-08T16:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/?p=63064"},"modified":"2020-02-08T09:30:02","modified_gmt":"2020-02-08T16:30:02","slug":"6-cases-of-mumps-now-confirmed-in-summit-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/krky\/local-news\/6-cases-of-mumps-now-confirmed-in-summit-county\/","title":{"rendered":"6 cases of mumps now confirmed in Summit County"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.skyhinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2019\/08\/EA_CD3PUYAAbTb3.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>FRISCO \u2014 There are now six confirmed cases of mumps among Keystone Resort employees in Summit County, according to Summit County Public Health Nurse Manager Sara Lopez.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summitdaily.com\/news\/mumps-cases-confirmed-in-summit-county\/\">first case was confirmed Tuesday morning<\/a> after Keystone officials sent the group of employees to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center late Feb. 1 \u201cout of caution,\u201d according to Aaron Parmet, infection prevention manager at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez said the number of confirmed cases could continue to increase as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very early still in the investigation,\u201d Lopez said Wednesday. \u201cThe situation is evolving and \u2026 it would not be unusual to see additional cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Public health officials said there is \u201cminimal risk\u201d to members of the public who have recently been to Keystone, and there is \u201cno known spread into the larger community,\u201d according to a fact sheet emailed to the Summit Daily News by Lopez.<\/p>\n<p>Mumps is a contagious viral disease that causes pain and swelling in the salivary glands in the cheeks, along with fever and fatigue, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The disease spreads through saliva, meaning it can be contracted through kissing, coughing or sneezing, or touching contaminated surfaces. Mumps has an incubation period of 16-18 days and about one-third of people who have the virus don\u2019t have symptoms, making it more difficult to track.<\/p>\n<p>Outbreaks of mumps are relatively rare and usually occur among groups of people who live in close quarters.
