The caller gave a detailed description of what the boy was wearing, and authorities had little trouble locating him. However, it turned out he was an adult resort worker, not a child.

Thursday, Feb. 6

8:48 a.m. — A malfunctioning heater sparked a fire alarm in Hot Sulphur Springs. As a snowstorm bore down on Grand County, authorities spent the day responding to numerous wrecks and slide-offs.

9:23 a.m. — A caller reported a man had been missing since leaving a house party in Granby on foot at 3 a.m. He was not at his apartment. Relatives in the area were contacted and he had not spoken to them, and his phone ping showed no recent contacts. The man was last seen in an area with heavy snow accumulation, parked vehicles, campers and garages. Authorities activated Search and Rescue and, with the help of a sheriff’s K-9 unit, tracked the man to a shop, where he was found unresponsive in a crawl space at about 1:37 p.m. The man was treated for hypothermia and released. The sheriff’s K-9s also assisted with calls in Summit and Jackson counties last week.

12:54 p.m. — There was a hard closure of Colorado Highway 134. The closure remained in place overnight because there were 8 foot snow drifts that crews couldn’t clear.

1:14 p.m. — An avalanched closed the eastbound lane on US 40 through Byers Canyon. At almost the same time, another avalanche shut down some lanes on Berthoud Pass.

1:34 p.m. — A semi slipped a chain at US 40 and CR 201. The chain punctured a hole in the semi’s gas tank, and the semi leaked about 100 gallons of diesel fuel on the road. Authorities called for a HAZMAT crew to clean up the spill.

1:56 p.m. — Berthoud Pass was closed at mile marker 234 due to hazardous driving conditions.

4:19 p.m. — An individual called for assistance because the family’s vehicle was stuck and they needed to get food for an 8-month-old child. A sheriff’s deputy responded to the call by picking the family up and taking them to the store before bringing them back home.

5:45 p.m. — The Grand County Sheriff’s Office issued a CodeRed text alert telling people to stay home unless they absolutely had to travel.

These are a small number of the calls fielded by Grand County’s dispatchers, first-responders and law enforcement agencies. The police blotter was put together by the Sky-Hi News in conjunction with the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. It does not include any reports about alleged sexual assaults, child abuse, DUIs or domestic violence.

via:: Sky-Hi News

Monday, Feb. 3 11:20 a.m. — A caller reported a 12-year-old boy hitchhiking on US Highway 40 in the middle of the day on a school day.
