Dominguez pinned Richel in 1:15.<\/strong><br \/><em>Eli Pace \/ epace@skyhinews.com<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>West Grand\u2019s Rene Dominguez has qualified for the Class 2A state wrestling tournament by finishing in fourth place at last weekend\u2019s regional tournament in Montrose.<\/p>\n<p>Wrestling in the 138 pound weight class, Dominguez went 4-2 in his matches on Friday and Saturday, as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the two-sport athlete (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/mustangs-shoot-into-2019-20-wrestling-season-with-talent-depth\/\" target=\"_blank\">the two-sport athlete<\/a> posted the Mustangs\u2019 top finish and made state.<\/p>\n<p>Other top performances for the Mustangs came from Ben Biekert and Omar Dominguez, who were both sixth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a good season,\u201d coach Brian Strathman said of his team, adding that there\u2019s a lot to look forward to next year.<\/p>\n<p>Last week\u2019s snowstorm kept the Mustangs from traveling to a tournament in Rawlins, Wyoming, and the time off one week before regionals probably didn\u2019t help West Grand going into the state qualifying contest.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Mustangs are still young. The wrestling squad that had as few as four wrestlers only a few years ago was up to 16 boys on the roster this year, and there\u2019s only one departing senior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have everybody coming back but Cameron (Wood), so we\u2019re looking good to the future,\u201d Strathman said.<\/p>\n<p>The coach credited Wood for strong leadership throughout the season and helping get the program where it is today. At regionals, Wood was 2-2 with both of his victories coming via pins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had a really good year,\u201d Strathman said of the team\u2019s only senior. \u201cHe\u2019s been a good leader for the last four years, and he\u2019s done a lot to bring the program to where it is\u2026 The program is going in the right direction.
