Thirteen schools participated in the races hosted by Middle Park.<\/strong><br \/><em>Amy Golden \/ agolden@skyhinews.com<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The 5K classic Nordic race in Steamboat Springs on Saturday saw Middle Park\u2019s girls take second place among a strong field of competitors while boys managed to finish in fifth.<\/p>\n<p>The top Middle Park skier was Elizabeth Hammond, who finished in sixth place at 23 minutes, 18 seconds. Next for the Panthers were Gabrielle Pellini (12<sup>th<\/sup>, 24:54) and Maggie Barker (15<sup>th<\/sup>, 25:02), followed by Selena Stoncius (24<sup>th<\/sup>, 26:25), Ellen Osborne (37<sup>th<\/sup>, 27:56), Sierra Jamison (46<sup>th<\/sup>, 28:44) and Emily Deplata (54<sup>th<\/sup>, 30:01).<\/p>\n<p>Eighty-eight girls representing 13 Colorado High School Ski League teams skied the race.<\/p>\n<p>For the boys, Gray Barker was Middle Park\u2019s top skier with an eighth place finish at 18:59. Guy Granger was next for the Panthers in 11<sup>th<\/sup> place at 19:32 with Ethan Callarman close behind in 12<sup>th<\/sup> at 19:38. Vinny Troccoli was 15<sup>th<\/sup> at 19:54.<\/p>\n<p>Other skiers for the Panthers were Will Kuhns (54<sup>th<\/sup>, 22:27), Kyle Vogelbacher (57<sup>th<\/sup>, 22:32), Ewan Gallagher (58<sup>th<\/sup>, 22:33), Andy Troccoli (61<sup>st<\/sup>, 22:48), Chance Hein (62<sup>nd<\/sup>, 22:55) and Jack Nesvara (132<sup>nd<\/sup>, 33:12).<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers are now preparing for the state championships Feb. 27-28 in Minturn. The Panthers are going into state ranked third behind Battle Mountain and Aspen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EGMS boys 1st in classic race<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The East Grand Middle School boys Nordic ski team took first place at the Steamboat Springs 3K classic race on Saturday. It was the second time the boys have won a meet this year.<\/p>\n<p>This was a voluntary or optional meet for the boys. The top skier for East Grand was Dave Hammond (2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 11:53). He was followed by Dane Jensen (3<sup>rd<\/sup>, 11:54), Kadin Start (4<sup>th<\/sup>, 12:12), Logan Walker (7<sup>th<\/sup>, 12:56).
