A popular spot for backcountry, with the closures of uphill access at Winter Park Resort and others, some backcountry organizers fear that the overcrowding at the pass could lead to further shutdowns.<\/p>\n<p>The Friend of Berthoud Pass, a nonprofit for the preservation of the pass, reposted a statement from the Colorado Backcountry Ski &amp; Snowboard group pleading recreationists to think about their actions in relation to the local backcountry area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLoveland and Winter Park ski areas, as well as Rocky Mountain National Park, were originally open to recreation but due to crowding had to close,\u201d the statement said. \u201cCrowding at other areas could lead to the same thing, further adding to the stress on any remaining open areas, potentially leading to further closures.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\">\n<div class=\"row shn-donation p-0\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.skyhinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/shn-logo-2x-wht.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.skyhinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/shn-logo-2x-wht.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-xl-8 p-3 text-center\">\n<h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/donate\/?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=news%20article&amp;utm_campaign=donation\">Donate<\/a><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Many enthusiasts have pointed out that the executive order does allow for recreation \u201cto engage in outdoor activity, such as walking, hiking, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, biking or running.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, on Friday, Gov. Jared Polis emphasized that recreation should take place close to home and pointed out that the pandemic \u201cis not a vacation.\u201d Backcountry representatives reflected the sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe roads throughout the state will remain open explicitly for necessary travel,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe highly recommend you recreate within your own county.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Berthoud Pass remains open, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/public-lands-close-after-stay-at-home-order-issued\/\">US Forest Service<\/a> closed the warming hut and restrooms to prevent gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe love the backcountry, but we should all come to understand just how self-serving of an activity it really is,\u201d the statement concluded.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/news\/backcountry-group-asks-skiers-to-stay-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Sky-Hi News<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cameras at Berthoud Pass show a full parking lot by 9:30 a.m. Backcountry representatives are asking enthusiasts to consider their actions during the stay-at-home order.CDOT camera As Coloradans begin their first weekend under the statewide \u201cstay-at-home\u201d order, backcountry skiers are considering the wording of the governor\u2019s order.
