{"id":22229,"date":"2020-04-03T12:28:41","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T18:28:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/?p=64056"},"modified":"2020-04-03T12:28:41","modified_gmt":"2020-04-03T18:28:41","slug":"state-health-department-provides-update-on-colorados-covid-19-testing-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/krky\/local-news\/state-health-department-provides-update-on-colorados-covid-19-testing-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"State health department provides update on Colorado\u2019s COVID-19 testing strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"47.708333333333\">\n<p>Testing for COVID-19 continues to be a top priority for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, which has led to the Colorado Unified Coordination Group continuing to support strategic, targeted community testing for health care workers and first responders, and as well as working to increase the state\u2019s testing capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>With that, CDPHE provided an update on Colorado\u2019s COVID-19 testing strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, there are two primary routes to testing in Colorado:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hospital staff, hospitalized patients, and vulnerable, symptomatic patients receiving care at health care facilities can get tested at those facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Critical health care workers and first responders who have symptoms can get tested at community testing sites being run by local public health agencies in various communities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u201cRight now, due to limited supplies of testing kits and personal protective equipment, testing needs to be focused on the people who are the most at-risk from this disease and the people in charge of caring for and keeping the rest of us safe, Scott Bookman, CDPHE\u2019s COVID-19 Incident Commander, said. \u201cIt\u2019s important to protect the most critical element of the health care system. We are working hard to get the supplies and capacity to move to broader public testing, but until then our message remains the same: if you have only mild symptoms, self-isolate and don\u2019t wait for a test.\u201d<br class><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\">\n<div class=\"row shn-donation shn-donation-mobile p-0\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.skyhinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/shn-logo-2x-wht.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.skyhinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/02\/shn-logo-2x-wht.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-xl-8 p-3 text-center\">\n<h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyhinews.com\/donate\/?utm_source=article&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=donation&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_content=mid-article\">Donate<\/a><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>CDPHE provided further guidance on how to prioritize testing for the coronavirus while the testing capacity continues to be strained across the nation and the state of Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>UCG&nbsp; is currently working to develop plans that local public health agencies can use to conduct their own community testing sites when testing kits are more readily available.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For now, testing strategies are now broken into three tiers, according to CDPHE.<\/p>\n<p><strong class>TIER 1&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class>Hospitalized patients<\/li>\n<li class>Health care workers with symptoms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong class>TIER 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class>Patients in long-term care facilities or other residential settings such as homeless shelters or correctional facilities with symptoms<\/li>\n<li class>Patients over age 65 with symptoms<\/li>\n<li class>Patients with underlying conditions with symptoms<\/li>\n<li class>First responders with symptoms<\/li>\n<li class>Critical infrastructure workers with symptoms<\/li>\n<li class>People with symptoms who work with vulnerable populations or in group residential settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong class>TIER 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class>Other individuals with symptoms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CDPHE is urging the public to not wait for a test to self-isolate. People who are not at high risk of severe illness may not need to be evaluated in person or tested for COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone with symptoms will be tested right away.
