Troy Gentry’s Wife Gave the ‘Gift of Life’ Donation After His Death

Troy Gentry left more than a musical legacy following his untimely death in September 2017. His widow, Angie, has revealed that parts of the Montgomery Gentry member’s body were donated following his passing. leaving a “gift of life” that will extend and enhance even beyond his career achievements.

“If this is your time and God says, I’m taking you home…but other parts of you still work perfectly well that could help somebody else, why would you not donate them?” Angie, whose sister is a kidney transplant recipient, explained to People. “You don’t throw something away that’s perfect.”

Due to his injuries in the helicopter crash, Troy’s organs weren’t able to be donated, but his bones, tissue and corneas were viable.  His wife states that she felt donation was something she thought her husband would want to do.

On Wednesday night (Jan. 9), Troy was further memorialized with a benefit concert at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville: Dubbed C’Ya on the Flipside, the show officially launched the Troy Gentry Foundation, and raised more than $300K to help support cancer research charities, provide assistance to military families and assist music education organizations.

Blake Shelton gave an emotional tribute at the show, performing a stripped-down acoustic rendition of his song “Over You,” a song he co-wrote with his now ex-wife, Miranda Lambert, and gave to her to record in 2012. The song is about Shelton’s older brother, who was killed in a car accident in 1990 when Shelton was just 14 years old.
