Reba was the first to be f\u00eated, and Cher was the last.<\/p>\n<p>Country radio host Bobby Bones was one of the first on the stage to tell his story of how he fell in love with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmt.com\/artists\/reba-mcentire\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reba<\/a>. \u201cIt all started when I was a kid back in Arkansas and I went to my first ever Reba concert,\u201d Bones shared. \u201cAnd even though you were a massive superstar, and even though I was sitting in nosebleed section B99, and even though I was a 12-year-old with a mullet haircut, I knew, Reba, you were singing just to me.\u201d He said that when he eventually had the chance to talk with her, all his anxiety about being around one of the biggest stars was gone in seconds because she was so warm, honest, and genuine. \u201cYou\u2019ll never have a false moment with Reba.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Next up was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmt.com\/artists\/kelly-clarkson\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kelly Clarkson<\/a>, who couldn\u2019t hide her emotions when she talked about becoming part of Reba\u2019s family. \u201cSometimes when we meet our heroes, it doesn\u2019t always pan out how you hope. But meeting Reba, being friends with her, and eventually becoming family, has been one of the highlights of my life,\u201d she said before paying tribute to the country star with her 1991 ballad of child prostitution, \u201cFancy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmt.com\/artists\/lady-antebellum\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lady Antebellum<\/a> came out to the stage, Hillary Scott shared her own personal connection to Reba. \u201cAs a little girl, I was lucky enough to grow up watching Reba side stage. Both my parents toured with her, and my mom Linda Davis sang with her on \u2019Does He Love You?\u2019 I learned so much from Reba,\u201d Scott said. \u201cSome things she might not even know she taught me. She taught me that if you\u2019re willing to take risks, and outwork every one around you, you will find your place in this business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When it was Melissa Peterman\u2019s turn to toast Reba, she recalled a story from their days together as actors on the hit TV sitcom <em>Reba<\/em>. \u201cI will never forget our very first table read, and how you introduced yourself to everyone. \u2019Hi. I\u2019m Reba McEntire.\u2019 She used her last name. You know. In case we confused her with all the other Rebas,\u201d Peterman joked. \u201cIn that little moment, Reba, you showed us exactly who you were. Which is someone so kind and genuine and down to earth. Working with you was pure joy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>The Reba Tribute Song List<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kelly Clarkson: \u201cFancy\u201d from 1991<\/p>\n<p>Lady Antebellum: \u201cIs There Life Out There?\u201d and \u201cThe Greatest Man I Never Knew,\u201d both from 1992<\/p>\n<p>Kristin Chenoweth: \u201cDoin\u2019 What Comes Natur\u2019lly\u201d from the 1946 musical <em>Annie Get Your Gun<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmt.com\/artists\/brooks-and-dunn\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brooks &amp; Dunn<\/a>: \u201cWhy Haven\u2019t I Heard from You\u201d from 1994<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the two-hour live broadcast, when it was time to honor Cher, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmt.com\/artists\/little-big-town\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Little Big Town<\/a> took the stage for a medley of some of their favorite Cher songs. \u201cHalf Breed\u201d from 1973, \u201cI Found Someone\u201d from 1987, and \u201cBaby Don\u2019t Go,\u201d one of the first collaborations from Sonny &amp; Cher after becoming husband and wife in 1964.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCher, back when the four of us first started out as a band,\u201d the band\u2019s Karen Fairchild said, \u201cwe used to listen to your music and this song all the time. And were honored to sing for you tonight. Thank you for all the inspiration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other honorees at the ceremony were Philip Glass, Wayne Shorter, and the four co-creators of the musical <em>Hamilton<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author\">\n<div class=\"description\">Alison makes her living loving country music.
